Vision/Concept:
Through vignettes, we see art historian, Heidi Holland, trace her friendships, romances and place within society during the second-wave of feminism where she examines her role within the workplace, motherhood, and the challenges that others face. By the end of the play, the students she teachers, remind her of those that she crossed paths with in life.
In terms of staging, this is the first time where I had blocked the majority of the ensemble to remain, and make costume changes, on onstage. The ensemble served as background characters to Heidi’s life: college students, party-goers, wedding guests, protesters, hospital patients/families, and I’m so grateful for the cast for buying-into this vision. Costumes and music were so important to this production as it helped us tell time and place. Besides the songs mentioned in the script, getting to DJ the soundtrack of this play was really fun.
